経歴 Biography: フランクリン・カレッジで学ぶものの、素行の悪さから強制中退させられ、兄の尽力でRKOに編集アシスタントとして就職した。慎重な仕事ぶりが認められ、1939年に編集者として独り立ちする。「市民ケーン」「悪魔の金」「偉大なるアンバーソン家の人々」などを担当したのち、1944年に監督デビューを果たす。以降、社会派ドラマ、SF、ホラー、戦記、史劇、ミュージカルと様々なジャンルの映画を撮り、“職人監督”と呼ばれた。
